About Craig
Craig is the son of legendary Sydney photographer Ron Ratcliffe a leading developer of both modern car and commercial colour photography. This meant that even through his childhood Craig spent a good deal of time in and around photographic studios and as a child model. In 1974 aged 15 he commenced photographic training with his father. Through his childhood and teenage years he also gained a very early and thorough understanding of advertising and marketing processers…and people.
In 1982 Ron and Craig, now a fully fledged photographer, moved the photographic business to Brisbane. The Brisbane studio grew quickly and apart from brilliant photography offered traditional photocomposition services, transparency retouching and in-house E6 colour processing. Brisbane’s first “egg” cyclorama for car photography was also constructed.
The change to digital was rapid but with his advanced knowledge of traditional photocomposition, ease with people and advanced lighting skills learning to use "another sort of camera" did not proove difficult.
The Brisbane floods of 2011 forced a 200 meter move for Craig to his present studio in Bowen Hills. The 2 level 180 square meter studio is well equpped with full kitchen facitilities, roller-door access and is fully air conditioned.
Throughout his many years as a photographer Craig has gained a reputation for shooting just about anything both precisely and with little fuss, taking a shoot from layout stage to finished image on time on budget and always with a smile. Whether in the intricate macro world of jewellery photography, moshing in with a film crew to the point the 1st AD barely realises he’s there, shooting food or directing talent working with Craig will always be a pleasure. You’ll get the brilliant results you want because as he often says “As an ad photographer the best shots are more often taken with the ears than the camera”.
